love these chains, and really was surprised at their quality. I just
bought a new John Deere to replace an old Cub Cadet mower that now hacks
away at the grass at my mountain camp. The lawn at my home is quite
steep and even on dry ground I need chains to be safe and get back up to
the garage. When I saw the price on these chains, I was suspicious of
their quality and durability because I know what good steel chains cost
for other purposes. As other reviewers noted, the packaging is modest
at best, but the box arrived in one piece, the chains were fine, and I
was able to install them with limited time and hassle. If you deflate
your tires, the chains go on easily and you can make them snug for long
term use (it helps to have an air compressor at home, but tractor tires
only carry about 10 lb. of pressure so you could refill with a hand pump
if necessary). The chains have not marked up my paved driveway, they
do not leave noticeable marks on the lawn, and they deliver the extra
traction I need to do the lawn. After mowing 3 times it is hard to
comment on long term durability of the chains, but I see no reason they
will not last as long as the ones on my old Cub Cadet, and that is many
years. These chains are probably worth twice the price for my needs.
